Investigating the effect of flaxseed on liver histopathology, weight, and blood factors of rainbow trout

Introduction: In this study, the effects of flaxseed extract on growth performance, blood, serum, and liver parameters of rainbow trout were investigated.
Methods and Materials: In this research, 120 pieces were divided into 3 groups (control and groups receiving Assar with a concentration of 0.5 and 1% per kilogram of diet) and were fed for 2 weeks. At the end of the period, after anesthesia, blood was taken from their tail, and the weight and length of the fish were measured. The liver tissue was placed in 10% formalin for histopathological examination.
Results: It showed that hematocrit and AST enzyme levels are increasing in the group receiving 1% extract, histopathologically, the liver became vacuolated and became necrotic in a way that was also visible in some central veins. The same side effects were more severe in higher concentrations.
Conclusion: The results showed that flaxseed extract did not play an important role in enhancing the immune system or growth of rainbow trout.
