Effects of self-management program and telephone follow up on medical adherence in patients with ischemic heart disease

| Introduction: Ischemic heart disease is the main cause of death in most societies. The disease has no cure and diseases management is necessary throughout the life of the patient. Medical adherence for preventing further progression of the disease and stroke is very important. The purpose of this study is to review the effect of self-management program and telephone follow up on medical adherence in patients with ischemic heart disease.
Materials and Methods: The study is a randomized controlled trial (RCT) which contains 60 patients with ischemic heart disease who are eligible for inclusion criteria. They divided randomaly into two equal control and experimental groups. All samples were examined with demographic and medical adherence questionnaire at first. The intervention group participated in the workshop of self management program during the first week after discharging. Then, it was followed up by phone for 8 weeks. Finally 3 and 6 months weeks after the last call, the questionnaire of medical adherence were fulfilled again by all samples and the results of the two different periods were compared.
Results: The results showed that there is no meaningful statistical difference due to demographic characteristic and medical adherence between two groups of examination before interference.
