Introduction: In accordance with the conflicting results and concerns related to exhaustive exercise testing effect on systemic inflammatory responses in inactive people, this study was conducted to identify the effect of Astrand exhaustive exercise test on serum interleukin-6 (IL-6) and C-reactive protein (CRP) response in healthy inactive men. Materials and Methods: In a quasi-experimental pre/post design, ten volunteer healthy inactive men (aged 20-24 years and body mass index 20-25 Kg/m2) participated in Astrand aerobic cycling test. Blood samples were collected immediately before and after the exercise test. Serum IL-6 and C-reactive protein were determined by ELISA and immunophotometry methods, respectively. Plasma epinephrine and cortisol (as control variables) were also determined by ELISA method. Results: The results show that the serum IL-6 and CRP increased significantly by 1.3 and 2.4-fold following the exhaustive test, respectively (P |
