The effectiveness of educational help for parents on reading performance of students with learning disorders of reading

Introduction: The educational system of each country encounters the problem of “Learning disorder", which leads to academic underachievement and backwardness of student. Importanly, The aim of this study was to provide a self-help eductional software for parents of these students trying to improve their academic performance.
Materials and Methods: This clinical trial study was conducted using pretest and posttest with control group. The study population consisted of elementary school students whose "Learning disorder, reading type" was diagnosed by pediatric and adolescent psychologist using diagnostic tests and clinicl interview. Grop A carried out the exercises of self-help software for parents.Group B practiced the same exercises through instructions of occupational therapist. Group C had no intervention and was considered as control group.
Results: The mean scores of "correct read words" as one indicator of reading performance was significantly higher in Group A after intervention than before intervention (p<0.001). The mean score of "reading comprehension "was significantly higher in both groups (A and B) after the intervention (p = 0.006 and 0.025, respectively).
Conclusion: The results showed that the educational package for parents improved the performance of the students more effectively than the presence group
